The Britain Brunei Business Forum (BBBF) held its 22nd Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, 8 March 2022 at the Radisson Hotel in Bandar Seri Begawan.
At the meeting, the BBBF is delighted to announce the appointment of Pengiran Aki Ismasufian Bin Pengiran Haji Ibrahim as the new Chair of the organisation. Pengiran Aki replaces Mr Siva Subramaniam, the outgoing Chair who has completed his term and will continue to serve on the committee.
Pg Aki is the CEO of Standard Chartered Bank and has been an active member of Britain Brunei Business Forum for a number of years. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position and is committed to leading the forum towards continued growth and success.
Mr Ambrose Nathan was re-appointed as Honorary Treasurer and Ms Miriam Wolber was appointed as the Honorary Secretary replacing Ms Yee-Man Cheng who has completed her term. Ms Cheng continues to serve on the committee. Ms Alina Malik, Mr Manuel Bulens and Mr Edmund Teo were elected as the forum’s newest Committee members.
At his Welcoming Remarks, Mr Stephen Taylor, 2nd Secretary (Political) from the British High Commission outlined the various recent events, visits and dialogues held by the British High Commission which included the first Climate Change Dialogue, first Maritime Dialogue and to the recent visit to Brunei of the UK’s Trade Envoy, Mr Mark Garnier MP.
Lastly, Mr Taylor thanked the BBBF and its members for their views, advice and expertise on Brunei’s development and congratulated Pengiran Aki and the new committee members on their appointments and offered his best wishes to the forum for a successful year ahead.
Mr Taylor attended the event on behalf of His Excellency John Virgoe, British High Commissioner.
Pengiran Aki, the new Chair of the BBBF said, “I am honoured to have been chosen to lead Britain Brunei Business Forum as Chair and I look forward to working closely with our committee members to further our mission of supporting local and UK businesses. Our forum has a vital role to play in promoting closer economic links between Brunei Darussalam and the UK and I am excited to be a part of this effort.”
In his closing remarks as Outgoing Chair of the BBBF, Mr Siva Subraniam said, “We are thrilled to welcome Pengiran Aki as the new Chair of BBBF. Pengiran is a dedicated member of our community and brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the position. We are also pleased to welcome our new committee members, and I am confident that their contributions will be invaluable as we work to advance the interests of our members and the broader business community.
Mr Subramaniam continued, “It is of particular importance that our AGM falls on International Women’s Day with its theme of “Embrace Equity”. The BBBF celebrates the achievements of women in all areas of society and promote gender equality, not only in our forum, but in the companies which we collectively represent.”
