Sunday, 23 July 2023 – Empowering Single Mothers – Britain Brunei Business Forum hosts @singlemamaspeaks.bn for an Upskill Baking Workshop

Britain Brunei Business Forum held an Upskill Workshop, specially designed to empower single mothers in our community on Sunday, 23 July 2023. The event was held in collaboration with @singlemamaspeaks.bn, a local organisation created to inspire, give strength and support to single mothers in Brunei Darussalam and the Culinary School by Laksamana College of Business.

The workshop was conducted by two Culinary Instructors from the Culinary College by Laksamana College of Business, Chef Pg Kahar and Chef Alif. They demonstrated the method of making Apple Tarte Tatin and Coconut Tart. After the demonstration, the attendees had a chance of making the pastries themselves empowering them with the knowledge of a new skill.

Pg Aki Ismasufian bin Pg Hj Ibrahim, Chair of the BBBF said:

“We are delighted to hold this workshop in collaboration with Laksamana College of Business aimed at equipping single mothers with essential skills to enhance their employability, possible career prospects and overall confidence. We recognise the challenges single mothers face in balancing work, family and personal growth and this workshop aims to bridge the skills gap and promote sustainable livelihoods. It is also our way to recognise single mothers by providing them with an afternoon of knowledge and network with fellow single mothers and the committee members of the BBBF.”

Mr Siva Subramaniam, COO and Deputy Principal of Laksamana College of Business said:

“As part of our commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, we aim to create an inclusive and supportive environment that fosters growth and development for all members of society. We recognise that single mothers often encounter unique challenges in their professional journeys and seek to address these challenges through skill-building and support. We are delighted to offer our facilities for such a workshop in collaboration with Britain Brunei Business Forum and @singlemamaspeaks.bn.
