Did you know that global trade in education outranks that of trade in oil by a factor of almost 2? Our second Speaker Meeting of 2016 saw Dr Greg Keaney, Country Manager of the Centre for British Teachers (CfBT) in Brunei, give a highly informative and lively presentation on the potential in Brunei as a Centre of Excellence for English language teaching.
You only have to look to see how high a standard of English is spoken in Brunei, and Greg outlined the numerous advantages that Brunei already has: safety, clean environment, low cost of living, quality of infrastructure and others. His conclusion? With investment and a bit of work, Brunei has another “hidden treasure”. Chairman Andrew Varley had to call a halt in the end to the stream of questions that followed, but they continued outside during the refreshment break.
